Modern and Tap
The Lisa Jane School of Dance is a member of ISTD, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, the body that devises the syllabus in Modern Theatre and Tap. The styes are usually taught together but the children can pick one or the other if they wish.
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic style rooted in musical theatre which originated in America. It is often seen in musical productions and is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility.
While tap dance is generally considered an American art form, our tap dance style is rooted once again in musical theatre. Over recent years, the style has developed and concentrates on the rhythm of the feet and the acoustics as well as the aesthetics.
Once again, we hold regular examinations throughout the academic year and whilst not compulsory, the opportunity is always there.
